There is a site on Facebook called Upcoming & New 8 Bit Games. You'll find there information about new games for all the classic systems. I've been asked to forward this information here so it won't be restricted only to Facebook users. So lets just start from the latest news.

Labirynt Śmierci - ENCORE's Borad Game

About a year ago Marduk sent me a high quality scan of a gamebook called Dreszcz. A few days after he sent me another scan. It was a Polish game called Labirynt Śmierci but for some reason I forgot to post it. So finally here is it. Just let me mention that the Encore's games (all in Polish) are getting pretty rare now. The games were printed on a poor quality paper so it's hard to get a decent copy this days. Fortunately this scan is excellent. Thanks again Marduk!

D-Pad Hero 2

D-Pad Hero 2 for NES has been released few days ago. I'm always happy to see a new software for 8bit platforms and fortunately there's a lot of new stuff lately. I wanted to write a little review but to be honest I have to say that I found it difficult to play. I'm not saying that the game itself is hard, it's just difficult to play on an emulator. Something about control keys I can't get used to. Anyway... the game looks really cool so give it a try! You can get it from here.

Amstrad GX4000

"The GX4000 was Amstrad's short-lived attempt to enter the games console market. The console was released in Europe in 1990 and was based on the still-popular CPC technology. The GX4000 was actually a modified CPC 6128 Plus computer. This allowed the GX4000 to be compatible with a majority of CPC Plus computer line software. Initial reviews were favourable - the console had impressive enhanced graphics and sound, a huge colour palette of 4096 (more than the 16 bit Sega Mega Drive), hardware sprites and hardware scrolling. It retailed for £99 and came bundled with driving game Burnin' Rubber. GX4000 game cartridges could also be used by the new 464 and 6128 Plus computers released at the same time." (Wikipedia)

There's about 34 known games for GX4000 and 25 of them is here:

• Barbarian 2 (1990)(Ocean)
• Batman the Movie (1990)(Ocean)
• Burnin' Rubber (1990)(Ocean)
• Copter 271 (1990)(Loriciel)
• Crazy Cars 2 (1990)(Titus)
• Dick Tracy (19xx)(Titus)
• Enforcer (1990)(Trojan)
• Fire and Forget 2 (1990)(Titus)

Spring Cleaning

I used to check this blog for broken links every week but I've been busy lately and simply forgot to see if the files hosted on RS (and MU) are still there. Black Hazor sent me an email yesterday with a few broken uploads so I decided to take some time and clean the blog up a bit. 99% of the files hosted on RS were gone, so it took me a while to remove it from about 500 posts. No more RS! Some links were pointing to old no-intro / MAME updates so I decided to delete the posts. There was no way / point to upload this stuff again. Everything should be fine now.

His Dark Majesty

His Dark Majesty is a strategy-rpg game developed by Jakub Dębski for 8bit Atari. The game is finally available (for free) from the project's website. I must say I have never ever seen a game (for 8bit Atari) made with such attention to details, graphics and playability. Just have a look at the screens below:

I just started to play it but I can already say that this is BIG.

Casio - PV-1000 No-Intro 20100428

"The PV-1000 was a video game console manufactured by Casio and released in Japan in 1983. The PV-1000 was powered by a Z80A micro-processor, and had only 2 KB RAM available, with 1 KB devoted to its character generator. It had a 256x192 pixel resolution and had 8 available colours. It was released alongside a computer known as the PV-2000, which is compatible with PV-1000 controllers but not games. In the same year Casio released two other consoles, the PV-7 and the PV-16 which were MSX computers. The PV-1000 initially sold for 14,800¥.

Casio failed to achieve a significant market share due to the success of the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is said to have been pulled from the shelves within a matter of weeks, making the system extremely rare." (Wikipedia)
